Plant a Rainbow
I planted a rainbow in the dead of Winter
You can do that in Southern California
A short bunch of green sticks in some dirt
A bit of water
And hope
You don’t need much but you need that
Green sticks are a baby rose bush
Plain old dirt that gets under your nails
Some precious water that we all take for granted
And hope, hard to come by lately, but so important
Keep some in your back pocket, or in your heart
It’s like a secret ingredient or a magic word
But it’s not magic, it’s the future
Filled with color despite a few thorns
And work to get there, but we can all pitch-in
Do our small part and suddenly, come Spring
The rainbow blooms
